Today is one of the Philippines’ most critical and remarkable calendar events, celebrating its independence and freedom from the Spaniards. Spain colonized the Philippines for 333 years, from 1565 to 1898. Before the Spanish colonial era, the Philippines was discovered by a European Portuguese national, Ferdinand Magellan, an excavation leader who died in a battle in Mactan Cebu, Philippines.
The Spanish-Filipino War, or the Philippine Revolution, known as the organization of the Katipunan Revolutionary, was started between 1896 and 1898. The Filipinos got an ally and fought together in the Spanish-American War, where the Americans won against the Spanish. Therefore, the Philippines declared its freedom independence from Spain in 1898; however, Spain did not acknowledge the independence.
Therefore, in the Treaty of Paris 1898, a settlement was made where the United States of America between Spain signed the agreement to end the war between the United States and the Spanish War where Spain signed the peace treaty agreement to take its no entitlements to claim the island of the Philippines. Consequently, the United States of America declared the Philippines independence from Spain on June 12th, 1898. However, an arrangement arose between the United States and the Philippines that America would take over the Island to help the country’s stability and assemble its military. For over 40 years, the Philippines was run under the United States’ systems. Finally, the Philippines ran its sovereignty to implement its Decrees. Some countries did not colonize the Philippines after the United States presented its promise to depart the Philippines after 40 years of taking over after Spain’s colonization.

Marking the 126th Philippines Independence Day. A freedom from Spain that caused lives back in 1800. The Fast is Fast, and we cannot take it back. However, the fast educated us an emphasized message to learn from it, to avoid any harm and possible colonization by letting harmony lead us by not allowing any conflicts as possible so that we may live in peace and forgiveness. Now Spain and the Philippines have a stronger relationship built to be a better country, and friendship has become the head of reconciliation.
Every Philippine Embassy around the world celebrates this day. It is a celebration with the head of mission, his/her diplomat officers, and the Filipino community. It is a celebration of fun, full of laughs, games, rewards, and gratitude.
The Philippine Embassy in Prague invited the Filipino Community to celebrate this special day with the Philippine Diplomats, the Consular General, the rest of the Embassy’s Officers, and mainly the head of the commission, Ambassador Eduardo Menez, and his wife. The Filipino community is grateful for always keeping the Filipino community in the loop when it comes to this kind of event. Filipinos in the Czech Republic may enjoy this day and be surrounded by many Kababayans in Prague.
With that said, thank you to the Philippine Embassy in Prague, the officers, the Consul General, and the Ambassador for opening its door to us, the Filipino community, to be part of this Independence Day celebration 2024, celebrated in the Majestic Plaza Hotel in Prague.
