
Prague, CZ – Filipino engineer and mountaineer Philipp Santiago II becomes the first recorded death of the season on an attempt to summit Mount Everest. The cause of his passing has not yet been determined.
According to a news report by Himalayan Times , Santiago was last reported at Camp 4, known to climbers as the “Death Zone”,where extreme altitude and low oxygen levels frequently lead to severe altitude sickness and other life-threatening conditions.
Santiago, 45, was a member of the Mountaineers’ Association of Krishnanaga and part of the Snowy Everest Expedition 2025. Efforts to bring his remains back to Base Camp are currently underway.
