This article provides essential guidance and steps for applying for dual Citizenship as a former Filipino. If you want information about this matter, this article is for you.
According to H.E. Mr. Eduardo Menez, the Philippine Ambassador of the Philippines of Prague, over nine thousand Filipino citizens reside all over the Czech Republic. Some fellow Kababayans hold their new foreign nationalities. Therefore, it is indisputable that former Filipinos are puzzled about retrieving their Filipino Citizenship after having a new foreign national. Many Filipinos, mainly those currently holding foreign national Citizenship or obtaining new Citizenship from a particular country, are concerned about the legality of maintaining their former nationality or remaining Filipino citizens after they become citizens of a foreign national.
Firstly, dual Citizenship is a legal status in some countries, and it is a legal right to be acknowledged and held by people who wish to have dual Citizenship once they have passed the necessary documents.
The Philippines is one of many countries that allows dual Citizenship. Therefore, many Filipinos have migrated to different parts of the world and returned to the Philippines with their new foreign national. However, some of these former Filipinos still wish to remain as Filipinos to enjoy the benefits of becoming a Filipino citizen while it is in the Philippines.
Dual Citizenship is governed by Republic Act 9225, also known as the “Citizenship Retention and Re-Acquisition Act of 2003.” This provision allows former Filipino citizens to re-acquire Citizenship after obtaining foreign nationality.
To apply for the retrieval of Filipino Citizenship, the applicant showed and must provide the required documents to the designated Philippine Embassy and work from there.
