There are various reasons why a country’s president visits another country. These may differ for political or diplomatic agendas, examining possible trade and investment for their country, addressing labor law of their workforce, cultural exchange, strategic partnership, and perhaps deepening public relationships of the two countries.
The president of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., visited the Czech Republic in March 2024 to personally meet with the president of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, to consider possible bilateral ties. President Marcos’s state visit aimed to discuss the optimistic approach to solidarity in the relationship between the Philippines and the Czech Republic.
The Bilateral agreements that have been discussed between the two presidents are the following,
An agreement that the Philippines will send a “quota of 10,300 ten thousand three hundred” Filipino Overseas Workers to the Czech Republic commencing in May 2024.
= This approach means thousands of Filipinos can benefit from this proposal, which could help them get decent-paying jobs as OFWs in the Czech Republic. It can also benefit the healthcare System greatly so that local and international hires can enjoy it. In addition, the country is loaded with vibrant culture and a very family-friendly environment.
The president of the Philippines briefed the Czech president about potential aid from the Czech government in case of reinforcement between the ongoing tension of the South China Sea and the Philippines.
= The Philippines cannot deny the deficiency of Defense and Security not enough to combat in case of conflict. This is the most essential discussion that must be addressed between the two countries. Therefore, President Marcos briefed and requested bilateral ties between the Czech government to support the Philippines. When the time comes, the Philippines needs its support; the Czech Republic will be there to aid with its joint Military ties and reinforcement. However, the Philippines promotes harmony agreement between the tension between the South China Sea and the Philippines.
The president of the Philippines opened the Trade and Investment prospect that a Czech government may and can invest in the Philippines following its legal systems.
= In this agreement, the Czech Republic can invest in the Philippines since it is a fast-moving, highly developed country regarding economic systems. With these, the Czech Republic’s economy could be broadened further to Asia, a vast opportunity for the Philippine economy’s strategic result. Both allies can benefit from its optimistic plans and agreement.
The president’s state visit discussed the Cultural Exchange and Tourism with the Czech Republic.
= This is a vast opportunity for the Philippines to receive an enormous number of tourists regarding Tourism in the Philippines. The impact on the Philippine economy is considerable with these tourists every year. Also, the Philippines will be significantly known for its wonderful tropical island, stunning beaches, and warmer Filipinos full of greatness despite its struggles that you hardly know until you jump deeper into their lives.
Furthermore, the Czech Republic will benefit from the bilateral agreement because it will broaden its market. Czech culture and history are iconic to clasp and study by exchanging students, artists, diplomacy, and more.
Hopefully, the President’s state visit to Prague could cover the significant concerns that could help develop the Philippines and the Czech Republic in an optimistic. Wishing all the best between these two allies.
